Ridgeclan cats show affection with actions rather than words, as a result they are very perceptive with body language and frequently use sign to speak to each other. Cats of Ridgeclan value tight family bonds and are proud of their family lines. Working together is in these cats blood, without it they wouldn’t have been able to make the mountainous hills their home. Patrols work in groups of five to four, two cats chase the prey and two or more to cut it off. These larger hunting groups also are able to hunt down young deer and mountain goats with hard work and traps set up on the rocks. Ridgeclan usually sends out hunting parties that spend a day or two hunting and then bring back their catches.
Ridgeclan are great diggers, their camp is cave that is open at the top with high walls and overhanging rock that hides the inner camp’s walls from spying eyes. Small openings with long tunnels lead to secret exists that lead out of camp and are only know to Ridgeclan warriors. These tunnels have been chipped wide with enough room for three grown cats to walk side by side. On the left of the cave is the Warriors and Apprentice den, small openings that lead down a short path into a larger den carved out by the river. In the apprentices den siblings sleep together in large nests with spots for individual items. Older apprentices tend to sleep in shifts to avoid all being in the nest together. Up high on the wall is an opening that leads into the Warriors den next door, Mentors are notorious for using it to call for their apprentices for training. Most warriors ignore the tunnel but a few brave adventurous apprentices will use it from time to time to get into the center of camp faster.
The warriors den is split by age, Older warriors stake claim to the small spaces chipped out of the wall with their mates and make these their permanent nests until retiring as elders. Younger warriors get nests in shallow dips in the rock floor caused by dripping water from the ceiling. Finally old enough to get nests by themselves, younger warriors are protective of their new spaces and take it seriously if their nests are intruded upon. Precious stones and other items are stored under nests to keep them safe and to prevent them from being stolen. The warriors den has the second shortest path to the center of camp, only behind the Nursery which opens straight into the middle of camp.
In the center of camp is a large pool of fresh water, filled fresh every time it rains. In the center of this pool is a small swath of earth where the roots of a great oak tree stand. In the gnarled roots of the tree is where the Leaders den sits, The leader will call meetings from the top of the roots. On the right side of camp is a large unnatural scoop taken out of the rock wall. Lined with large and plush nests, the nursery is open and spacious, the rock overhang protecting the cats from bad weather. All kits sleep in one nest with Queens taking shifts for keeping the kits warm and fed. Elders sleep next to the nursery in the very back corner of camp. Their den is a shallow dip that is filled to the brim with dry grass, moss, feathers and wool.
Now the medicine den is the most interesting den, situated on the opposite side of the warriors den is a gentle set of natural stairs that lead up to a wide ledge at the top of the cave hidden under two pine trees. The den is set back on the overhang of rock that surrounds the semicircle of the cave with blackberry bushes hiding it from the outside.
